Costs at UW-Madison have been rising to a level that many students can no longer afford. In 1960, the expense of in-state tuition, room and board was $1,400 per year. Today, the cost is $23,300. Out-of-state students pay even more. As a result, UW-Madison has become less accessible to those who have the intellectual ability, curiosity and tenacity to achieve their educational goals.
