Recipients of a named chair receive financial support and hold their title for the duration of their careers at UW-Madison.
Unrestricted professorships provide flexible support to colleges and deans. The areas to which a dean allocates the professorship(s) may be renewable, but these are re-evaluated every five years at the dean’s discretion. Regardless of renewal, recipients of named professorships carry their titles for the duration of their careers at the UW-Madison.
This new model for faculty support provides named awards with financial support for research. Support also can meet a particular school or college need, such as a summer salary for a faculty member who has recently received tenure.
Each recipient receives a $10,000 award for five years ($50,000 total) for research, teaching expenses, and graduate student support. The recipient holds the school or college’s “Fellow” title, which can be named for the donor, for the five-year period.
